The reviews this week are mainly focused around the popular high end drives – The Crucial M4, OCZ Vertex 3 and the OCZ Agility 3.  Reviews of others drives are quiet this week, likely due to the Computex event in Taipei.

As we mentioned many times before, real world tests are pretty much essential to an SSD review, much like a camera reviewer trying out its camera outdoors to find potential weaknesses that may not show up in the lab.  Legit reviews have went one step further with its Samsung 470 Series 256GB SSD by running long term tests.  For this, they loaded it to about half capacity with an OS, applications and so on and used it as consistently over a period of 3 months.  Over this period, they ran ATTO and CrystalDiskMark tests and also described what it was like using the SSD over the 3 month period.  Full details in their report here.

The following are the SSD reviews published since our last reviews Friday:

  • Real World – Includes real world tests, such as boot, app launch, file copy, etc. timings.
  • Real World+ – As Real World, but extensive tests such as software installation/update timings.
  • Sim – Simulated real world tests, such as replay of read/write traces.
  • SATA3 – SSD features an SATA 3.0 6Gbps interface.
  • USB3 – External SSD that has a USB3 interface
  • Pen – USB flash drive, but with SSD-like performance.
  • Short – Quick review, similar in size to a typical magazine review

If you came across an SSD review over the past week not listed, please let us know!

Please check back next Friday for the next round of reviews. ;-)
