With the recent launch of OCZ’s 2nd generation SandForce based drives, it was only just a matter of time for some competition. Sure enough SuperTalent and Patriot have unveiled their latest SandForce SF-2200 based SSDs, with an SATA 3.0 interface and claiming up to 500MB/s performance.
SuperTalent’s TeraDrive CT3 and FT3 line-up will feature ONFi Double Data Rate (DDR) flash, claiming to deliver twice the performance of its predecessors. The CT3 series uses the SandForce SF-2200 SSD processor and will focus on capacity and performance for prosumers, while the FT3 will use the more advanced SandForce SF-2500 SSD processor and a super capacitor to cater for Enterprise customers.
Patriot’s Wildfire claims its Wildfire SSD series will deliver 500MB/s, making it the fastest SSD they have released to the public to date. Like its Torqx series, these will come bundled with a 2.5″ to 3.5″ adapter to fit a standard 3.5″ HDD bay. The series will be available in capacities of 64GB, 128GB and 256GB.
Both announced availability of Q2 2011, which means that we should see these on sale by June. No pricing information has been announced yet, however, hopefully these will be available before June to give competition to the OCZ Vertex 3 series. While neither have gone into any more detail on read/write performance, we expect performance to be similar or at least close to the OCZ Vertex 3 series.
